WORK FOR SPENCER”S GIFTS

During the summer of 2023, I interned with Spencer’s Gifts and Spirit Halloween. I worked in the Creative/Marketing department, and was specifically hired for signage. As a signage intern, I was able to pitch concepts and designs for window displays at all Spencer’s locations. I also worked on smaller projects for signage/graphics that were used in the Spencer’s and Spirit office.

During the internship, I worked closely with a wide range of people, including senior graphic designers, art directors and creative directors to review and revise designs. I worked with licensed properties like Playboy, South Park, Bloody Disgusting and more.

After the internship was over, I was hired as a part time freelancer while I finished school. I continued to work for Spencer’s remotely for six months. My time at Spencer’s taught me a lot about design principles including print design, layout, and type in additon to real world skills and application. This includes factoring in things like budget, time, materials into my designs as well as building them to scale in the ‘mock store’. My tine Spencer’s also taught me how to pitch ideas in meetings, collaborate with coworkers, and work in a tight timetable.

Highlighted below are a few examples from some of my favorite projects that I worked on.

One of my first projects was to design a window display and feature case for playboy. I came up with around 20 designs, here are a few that Spencer’s responded well to.

PLAYBOY

Some of Spencer’s biggest clients include influencers like Danny Duncan and Kayla Malec. For these projects it was really important to gear colors and type to our audience, which was 14-18 year olds, so I created lots of trendy moodboard to help with create the displays..

INFLUENCERS

DSM CONFERENCE

This project was for the District Sales Manager Conference. I was given the theme “We Are Pilots, not passangers” and the Spencer’s brand guide. I had to create a poster, name tags, powerpoint templates and more for this. I pitched three poster designs (right). The creative director picked one and using her feedback, I designed the rest of the collatoral.

Bloody Disgusting is a podcast and media company that focuses on horror. They designed an exclusive T-Shirt line available at Spencer’s Gifts. These designs were responded well to.
